Kloof Corner: Full Guide to Hiking, Sundowners + More!
Looking for an easy hike with absolutely stunning views in Cape Town? Look no further than Kloof Corner!
Kloof Corner is one of my fave spots in all of Cape Town because it’s easy to access, a great workout and the perfect spot to catch a sunset. This blog will guide you through everything you need to know about it before you go.
Why Trust Me?
Hey – If you’re new here, I’m Amy! I’m originally from Toronto, Canada but have spent over 7 months living and working in Cape Town. It quickly became one of my favourite cities in the world, as I made friends with locals and was shown the incredible beauty of the Western Cape!
All my tips come from personal experience, as well as from my local friends who were born and raised in Cape Town.
Hike Overview: Duration and How to Get There
The hike is a SUPER quick and easy one that only takes about 20-30 minutes to get to the top (no more than 1 hour return). It’s only 1.5km and will take you up a windy trail until you reach the stairs to take you to the very top. The stairs are pretty steep but it’s an easy hike if you take it slow!
To get to the start of the trailhead, you can use Uber, Bolt or drive there yourself. You’ll find the exact starting point of the hike on the map below! There’s a marked trail across from some parking on the mountain so it’s very easy to find.
Before You Go: Tips for the Hike
Before you take off, here are some things I’d recommend bringing with you & doing!
- Sunnies
- Water
- Snacks (if you’re staying up for sundowners)
- Sweater – it can get windy up there!
- Camera – trust me, you’ll want it!
- If taking an Uber back, make sure you schedule one to pick you up shortly after sunset! This is SO important because I’ve finished the hike many times and no Ubers or Bolts wanted to drive up the mountain to get my group so we’ve had to hitchhike down. Being up on the mountain after fark can be dangerous so PLEASE schedule an Uber ahead of time.
The Best Time to Hike Kloof Corner
You can hike Kloof Corner year-round but with that being said, the best time during the day is before sunset! From the top you get the most incredible views of Clifton Beaches, Camps Bay, Lion’s Head and the 12 Apostles and it’s even more magical during sunset.
I’ve done this hike a few times during the middle of the day and it was great! But check the weather because on cloudy days, the clouds will roll over Table Mountain and completely block your view from the top.
The Best Spots for Photos on Kloof Corner
This hike is SO picturesque so you’re going to want to bring your camera (or phone) with you for some photos!
One of my favourite spots to get photos is on the steps near the top with Lion’s Head in the background. You can also get a similar view from the very top where you can sit on the edge facing Lion’s Head. If you follow the rocks to the left, you’ll see the 12 Apostles in the background and there are many places to sit and relax. That’s another great place to capture the beauty of Kloof Corner as well.
Is It Safe To Go Alone?
This is a wildly popular hike so it’s typically fairly safe and I’ve never had any issues hiking there. However, I personally wouldn’t hike alone (especially in low season when it’s less busy) because you just never know in Cape Town.
I’d go with at least 1 other person if you can but if you’re travelling solo and have no one to go with, make sure you go during the day and take proper safety precautions!
Is Kloof Corner the Same as Kloof Corner Ridge?
Nope! Kloof Corner is a much shorter and easier hike!
Kloof Corner Ridge is for experienced climbers so please don’t attempt alone or if you’re new to hiking/climbing.
You can find the trail for Kloof Corner Ridge here.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance!
I’ve been using SafetyWing for YEARS now and love how flexible their plans are.
It’s the best option on the market for digital nomads but anyone can grab their insurance before a flight so that you’re protected in case something goes wrong.
The Best Hike in Cape Town?
Kloof Corner might be the best hike in Cape Town (in my humble opinion) so I hope you give it a shot! It’s fairly easy to do and a great way to spend more time outdoors.
I’ll be back shortly with a new blog but in the meantime, you can follow my adventures as a full-time traveller and digital nomad on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube!
Cheers,
Amy xx
