Founder and CEO
Hey there and welcome to Spellbound Travels!
I’m Amy, a travel content creator and blogger from Toronto, Canada and you probably won’t be able to guess how this ended up being my career path.
In 2016, I went to Australia to study abroad during my Uni degree, travelling to a few countries around South East Asia along the way with a friend. I fell in LOVE with travel (obviously) but it took me many years to figure out a way to turn it into a job.
Flash forward to 2020, my travels were cut short (due to a certain something that disrupted everyone’s lives) and I came back home to Canada. I hopped on TikTok to see what it was all about and found myself really enjoying making content about studying abroad, how to live and work in Australia and offering budget travel tips.
Four years later, I accidentally became a travel content creator and haven’t looked back!
Travel content creation changed my life and it’s my mission to help you become a creator too (or just travel more).
I share travel content creation tips, as well as detailed destination guides, solo & budget travel tips and whole lot more to make planning your next trip a breeze!

More About Amy
As you can probably tell, I’m a summer and beach girl through and through!
While I will still explore some colder countries (hello, Iceland!), I’d much rather spend my days in the warmth.
After completing a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in English and Communication Studies in 2017, I was set on living in Australia.
I was SO set on living in Australia that I went back on a Working Holiday Visa in 2018 and tried to seek out an Australian husband so I could stay there forever – spoiler alert: that didn’t work out!
At least I ended up getting great work experience while I was there. I worked at a few different creative and marketing agencies, as well as an SEO agency where I was able to hone my skills as a copywriter and learn more about marketing.
My travels continued on my way home from Australia (while enduring some heartbreak) where I spent a few months travelling around New Zealand, the Philippines and Sri Lanka.
With no idea of how to turn my passion into a job at this stage, I kept going back home to work at one of Canada’s biggest gyms (Goodlife) and held many different restaurant jobs at the same time to save up, leave and do the whole thing over again.
I knew in my gut that I was meant to be travelling and despite everyone thinking “it’s just a phase”, it never has been for me!
Since the start of my travels, I’ve been to 49 countries (at the time of writing this page) and I can’t wait to see even more of the world.
The Evolution of Spellbound Travels
So … how did this travel blog even begin?
Honestly, it started wayyyy back in 2016 as a way to share my thoughts about my travels when I first went to Australia.
I had no idea how blogs worked and never thought it would really become something!
I’ll let you in on a little secret as well … this blog was actually called ‘Dreaming of Elsewhere’ for YEARS (I know it’s very Tumblr-esque). I’m talking 2016-2019 and I think I only changed the name because I had changed my Instagram handle and wanted the blog to match.
Since then I’ve had an on-again, off-again with this blog (no one told me it would be SO hard to monetize!).
But not to fear because I’m here to stay.
I want to help others find valuable information about the places they hope to visit so you can expect to see regular posts here from now on!
Quitting a 9-5 to Pursue Full Time Travel
I’ve been travelling (pretty much) full-time since 2021.
I hopped on a one-way flight to Cape Town in November 2021, after quitting a 9-5 in Toronto where I was a social media manager.
The funny thing is, I was only at that 9-5 for 5 months! I was on a 6 month contract and was asked to renew it but I knew from day 1, I wanted a different lifestyle.
While I was at that job, I took up freelance copywriting and absolutely LOVED it.
It didn’t pay very well at the start but it was enough to quit my job and pursue a fully remote lifestyle. My path shifted from copywriter to content creator when AI started to take over and I realized how much I enjoyed creating content!
Of course, I’m still a writer at heart so that’s why I’m so passionate about sharing my tips here on my travel blog.
I’ve travelled to 30+ countries alone since leaving Canada and working remotely in the past few years. I even met my partner while passing through Egypt in 2022 (at a cheap hostel dorm room!) and now I find myself somewhat based out of the UK.
With that said, I spend most of my time exploring new countries or returning to places I’ve loved (lately that’s been South Africa and Morocco) and sharing the ups and downs of my experiences along the way.
