The Best Travel Water Bottles With Filters

spellbound travels best travel water bottles with filters

Finding the right water bottle for travel isn’t easy. With so many options on the market, how should you decide which one to bring on your next trip? Today we’re looking at the best travel water bottles with filters so you can drink clean water on the go! Let’s get into it.

Why Choose a Filtering Bottle?

More plastic than ever is ending up in our oceans, food and drinking water, harming ecosystems, animals and people around the world. It’s important to do your part when you’re visiting a new place and avoid contributing to more plastic waste when you can! Of course, it’s not always possible to avoid single-use plastic but investing in travel water bottles with filters is a great place to start.

Things to Consider

Before you purchase a new bottle, thee are a few things you should keep in mind:

The Best Travel Water Bottles With Filters

After spending 6+ years travelling, I’ve learned a thing or two about filtered water bottles. Here are the best ones you can get your hands on!

Lifestraw Go

LIfestraw is typically the first name that comes to mind when talking about travel water bottles with filters. The straw of the bottle contains the filter to remove practically all bacteria (99.999999%). The only downside is that it doesn’t protect you from viruses found in water, so if you’re planning a trip to someplace where the water quality is poor, this bottle might not fully protect you.

With that being said, many travellers have used Lifestaw across the globe and have had no issues! It’s also more affordable than other bottles with filters, coming in at $39.95 and carrying up to 22oz of water. The microfilter lasts up to 4000 litres and the carbon filter lasts up to 100 litres, meaning you won’t have to replace the filter very often.

LARQ Bottle Movement PureVis

If you’re after an aesthetically pleasing filtering water bottle, the LARQ Bottle Movement PureVis is the perfect option for you! It uses UV technology to clean your water, while simultaneously keeping your water clean as well. Its protection includes 99.8% of E.coli after 20 seconds of filtering.

This bottle is great if you’re travelling and after a lightweight bottle. The downside is that you need to charge the bottle after about a month of use and it’s not your best option if you’re planning a camping trip where you’d need to filter out dirt or other bacteria from streams. This bottle comes in at $78.

Katadyn BeFree

The bottle is the best option for any hiking/camping trip. It can filter up to 2 litres per minute and collapses to take up the least amount of space possible! You can easily filter water from lakes, rivers and streams, removing protozoa and bacteria. Another plus is that this bottle holds up to 1 litre of water, which is perfect if you’re on the move and need to stay hydrated.

The main downside to this bottle is that it’s not as durable as other bottles that aren’t collapsable. You can purchase the bottle for $49.95.

GRAYL Geopress

I never knew what I was missing until I stumbled upon GRAYL. It made it to my list of sustainable travel products you actually need because I was that impressed! So what’s so great about it?

The GRAYL Geopress comes in different sizes (16-24 oz) depending on the type of travel you intend on doing. I personally have the Ultralight Compact Purifier (16 oz) because I was looking for a small bottle to squeeze into my backpack. If you drink a lot of water or plan on hiking a lot through your travels, I’d suggest getting a larger bottle, as the water disappears in no time with the 16 oz bottle.

Having tried and tested this filter in Asia and Africa, I can tell you with certainty that it works. You can rest easy knowing that you’ll have clean drinking water every time. As the name explains, the filter works as a press system, protecting you from 99.99% of bacteria and viruses, microplastics and more! It takes 15 seconds to filter and you know it’s time to replace the filter when it takes you 30 seconds to filter your water. The one and only drawback about this bottle (in my humble opinion), is that you need to put a bit of effort into pushing the press down to filter the water.

What Bottle is Best?

You can’t go wrong with any of these travel water bottles! It all boils down to your priorities and the type of travel you’re going to be doing. I personally love my GRAYL and will stick with that for the time being because the filter is the most reliable and it’s durable for backpacking and camping trips.
