Ultimate Guide to the Best Vegan Restaurants in Singapore

spellbound travels best vegan restaurants in Singapore

Singapore is home to some of the best food in the world, from Michelin Star street food, and open-air Hawker centres, to high-end fine dining and everything in between. If you’re vegan, veggie, or just enjoy great food, we’ve put together the ultimate guide to help you find the best vegan restaurants in Singapore

Is Singapore Vegan Friendly?

If you haven’t been before, you might be wondering if Singapore is vegan-friendly. It can always be hard travelling to a new place and being unsure if you will be able to find food easily or not.

BUT Singapore is surprisingly very vegan-friendly, in fact, the city is so great for vegans, that PETA Asia declared Singapore as the second most vegan-friendly city in the region, beating well-known favourites such as Bangkok and Bali! So it is probably not surprising then that there are so many epic places to eat as a vegan in Singapore.

The Best Vegan Restaurants in Singapore:

Love Handle

Love Handle is the new kid on the block when it comes to vegan restaurants in Singapore, and they pitch themselves as Asia’s first plant-based butcher.

The ground floor is set up like an actual butcher, and they sell the largest range of raw and curated plant-based meat and dairy products in Singapore. If you are wanting to dine in (which I highly recommend), you can check out the deli upstairs. The menu focuses on comfort food and hearty mains, with a huge range of burgers to choose from. The mushroom burger is incredible.

The atmosphere is hip and alternative – it has a very retro vibe, and it showcases local artist work everywhere. I’d recommend grabbing a window seat to people-watch as you enjoy your food.

Afterglow

Located in a super trendy part of Chinatown, surrounded by a number of popular bars and nightclubs, is Afterglow. Its location makes it the perfect spot to grab a quick bite before a night out.

It’s not the cheapest vegan restaurant in Singapore, but they cook with locally sourced products, and nothing is wasted, so you can feel even better about your dining experience. The menu is totally vegan and almost exclusively gluten-free.

Genesis Vegan Restaurant

Hidden in the basement of Havelock II (a small shopping complex), is Genesis Vegan Restaurant. If you are after “traditional” Singaporean food, this is the place to go.

The restaurant is unpretentious, and the menu is 100% vegan, with a strong focus on ingredients that are high in nutritional value. They are famous for their award-winning dumplings, but their tofu cheesecake is also definitely worth a try.

Komala Villas

If you are after a budget-friendly (but delicious) option, then head to Komala Villas in Little India. The restaurant has been open since 1947 and is loved by locals and visitors alike, with thousands of reviews online attesting to how good the food is.

For $7 SGD you can’t go wrong with the Vegetarian Biriyani. It’s served on a metal tray with banana leaves, and it is huge! It comes with vegetable curry, dahl, rice, chapati, papadums, raita, and a number of sauces and pickles. Depending on how hungry you are, one dish could definitely feed two people.

If you are after something smaller then go for the Masala Dosa, a thin crepe-like pancake, stuffed with potatoes and served with sauces. You can’t go wrong.

Note: Komala Villas isn’t exclusively vegan, but you will find it in almost every vegan guidebook, and it can compete with any of the best for a top spot as the best vegan restaurant in Singapore.

Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre

If you haven’t been to a Hawker Centre before, it is an open-air complex, that houses a number of different eateries, and Lau Pa Sat has to be the most beautiful and iconic Hawker Centre in all of Singapore.

The building is only one level and Victorian in style, and as it is right in the middle of the Central Business District (CDB), it is surrounded by super-modern skyscrapers on all sides, making it stand out even more.

The thing we love about Lau Pa Sat is that there is something for everyone, so if you are travelling in a group (or with new friends you’ve just met), everyone will be able to find something tasty to eat. We would recommend doing a walk around at least once before deciding where to get food as there are so many great options.

Whole Earth

Whole Earth is the first Peranakan-Thai restaurant in Singapore, and the only vegan restaurant in Singapore to win a Michelin Bib Gourmand rating six years in a row (2016-2022)! That in itself is a pretty good reason to check it out.

They specialise in Peranakan cuisine, which comes from the descendants of early Chinese migrants who settled in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. We would recommend trying one of their top sellers, like their Peranakans curry, sweet and sour “pork”, or Penang rendang – you won’t be disappointed!

VeganBurg

If you are a burger lover, then this place is for you. They offer a range of burgers, hot dogs, fries and sauces (or epic chargrilled broccoli if fries aren’t your thing). VeganBurg is basically your classic fast food joint – but 100% plant-based, and 100% delicious.

If the name sounds familiar, it might be because the owner has gone on to launch two more restaurants in San Francisco after the success of VeganBurg opening in Singapore in 2010, and they have won a tonne of awards, both in Singapore and California.

The Living Cafe

The Living Cafe is the epitome of health and wellness in terms of restaurants in Singapore. Picture raw dishes, superfood smoothie bowls, yogis and mindfulness, and you may start to get a feel for what this wholesome cafe has to offer. They describe themselves as an ‘inner city sanctuary, where you can nourish your body, mind, and soul’.

While the menu is incredibly vegan friendly, the restaurant is not exclusively vegan (or even vegetarian) – they do offer ‘white’ meat such as chicken and fish, but the bonus is that your non-vegan friends will love it just as much as you do.

They also have a retail space on the second floor where you can get a wide range of wellness products, so it’s worth having a browse after your meal if you have time.

Additional Vegan Restaurants in Singapore

Hey!

I’m Renata, an amateur video editor, blogger, and social media lover, who shares our family’s adventures online. Before having a baby, I had travelled to over 50 countries, worked as a tour guide through Europe, was a rock climbing instructor in America, and ticked off some huge bucket list adventures. We didn’t want to stop exploring once we became parents, so in May 2022 (when our borders opened up), we quit our jobs in New Zealand and bought a one-way ticket to Asia with our 2-year-old. We’re currently exploring the UK, and share our adventures on our YouTube channel, and blog
