Why You Shouldn’t Wait to Travel – Take the Plunge

spellbound travels why you shouldn't wait to travel

I’ve always been an advocate for travelling from a young age, especially during your 20’s. Recently my thoughts about living your life to the fullest were reinforced. After experiencing a sudden and unforeseen death of a young man in his early 20’s over the weekend, I was reminded of how sudden life can come to a halt. Most people I know live by the rules of society and think they can travel “once they retire”. They must work an insane 40+ hour work week with little to no vacation time each year and then they’ll travel. But let’s get real – that’s not truly living. That’s why I’ve felt compelled to explain 3 reasons why you shouldn’t wait to travel!

* (Of course this is slightly more difficult to practice at the moment due to he pandemic but you can always opt for local adventures. My fellow Toronto peeps can head over to my Toronto weekend getaway list for some inspo!) *

You’ll probably be less adventurous

Although I’m still excited to do more daring activities than the average person, I’ve noticed after turning 25 this year that suddenly things seem a tad bit more scary. Maybe it’s because I’ve had a lot of time to think, read and grow as a person over quarantine, but I’m more aware than ever of the possible dangers that come with certain activities. If you want to be daring and reach beyond your comfort zone, chances are that you’ll never be as fearless as you are now

You might not have enough money to travel comfortably in retirement

Travel is as cheap as it gets when you’re young and willing to stay in hostels or a tent, eat for $1 a day etc. When you plan to travel in retirement or later in life, there’s a 99% chance that you won’t settle for anything less than a comfortable bed, aircon and meals included.

Well guess what? That all adds up rather quickly and who’s to say that you’ll have money to expense a few month long trip? Travel now while you have money – however much that may be! Check out my budget guide for an easy way to get started with planning your trip.

All you ever really have is the present moment

You can plan all you want in life but no one knows how much time they have. If you don’t take up opportunities to travel when you can, those might never come around again. Or maybe they will … but you’ll never know. If that isn’t motivation enough, I don’t know what is!

I’ve personally been working on gratitude and being more present over the past few months. I can honestly say that it’s changed the way I view the world. It’s a journey I couldn’t recommend more! If you’re interested in learning more about becoming more present I’d check out “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle to get you started.

So that concludes my little rant on why you shouldn’t wait to travel. What do you think? If you think you need to wait until retirement to travel, why is that?  Leave a comment below, DM me on Instagram or head to my YouTube channel.

Until next week!

Cheers,

Amy
