So as some of you may know I arrived in Melbourne two weeks ago and had some trouble finding a place to live, but not to worry I’ve finally settled down in a place 10 minutes out of the CBD!
So now that I’ve been at my new place for about a week I’ve had some time to reflect on my time searching for a spot to call home, and although there were some tough moments it definitely made my first week in Melbourne all the more interesting.
It’s undoubtably a little intimidating coming to a new city alone but I had a lot of fun exploring many streets of Melbourne, making some new friends and getting used to their public transportation. If you didn’t already know, they’re big on these things called trams that are basically equivalent to Toronto streetcars and make my time spent commuting around the city and to school much easier.
Here are some pictures I took while walking from potential house to house in the city. Although it was a stressful situation it was nice to be able to just walk everywhere in 37 degree weather, looking at new buildings, parks, bridges ect.
Back to making new friends – I spent a few nights with new people I’ve met (one being a Canadian girl studying at Deakin Uni as well and an Australian girl I met on campus in the library). I actually ended up going to Chinatown on Saturday to meet up with the Australian girl and some of her friends and had a great time meeting more girls to hangout with.
While the past two weeks were challenging to adjust to, I just had to remind myself it was all part of the process when coming to a new country and I couldn’t be happier deciding to come out to Australia.
Well that’s about all I have for tonight, but not fret I’ll be back soon with more.
